College Student Transforms Old Bus Into Chic Tiny Home You Won’t Believe the Interior
This is a brilliant showcase of what happens when ingenuity meets frugality. The layout is not only striking in design but also masterfully functional.
Thinking of becoming an architect? Or maybe you’re already diving into design theory and blueprints?
For those pursuing architecture, school becomes the launchpad a creative arena where raw talent, bold ideas, and groundbreaking first projects take form.
It’s not an easy course.
It’s actually rather challenging.
After years of lectures, late nights, and relentless exams, most students reach a point where excitement and nerves collide they’re eager to translate theory into real-world impact.
For many, this pivotal moment arrives in the form of a thesis or that first leap into the professional world.
After countless semesters, most students find themselves buzzing with a mix of anticipation and anxiety ready to transform accumulated knowledge into tangible action.
This transition typically begins with a capstone thesis or the plunge into their very first job.
Caleb Brackney completed The Roamer Bus.
And he pulled it off in just six months timing it perfectly before his lease ran out.
In February 2020, with $10,000 to his name, Caleb Brackney purchased a decommissioned school bus for $3,000 and set out to bring his blueprint of imagination and skill to life.
“I’m the eldest of seven, and our summers were a patchwork of adventures roaming through national and state parks across the western states. Wandering has always felt like home to me,” he shared with Euro News.
With that spirit in tow, he poured the remaining $7,000 into transforming the 26-year-old school bus into a rolling sanctuary a nomadic haven crafted from steel and soul.
An old bus given new life
“I’m the firstborn of seven, and our summers were a blur of road trips crisscrossing the western states, exploring every national and state park we could reach. So naturally, I’ve always felt like a wanderer,” he told Euro News.
With that same spirit of exploration, he funneled the remaining $7,000 into converting the 26-year-old school bus into a fully functional, dream-worthy home on wheels.

He gathered material everywhere he found it.
In fact, he credited his budget-savvy success to sourcing affordable yet high-quality materials from places like Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, and even the occasional dumpster dive.
Step through the front door, and you’re welcomed by a modest bookshelf charming in its simplicity and full of personality.

You’ll see the kitchen first.
You can’t help but notice how surprisingly roomy the space feels. Caleb cleverly incorporated ample storage nooks perfect for stashing away groceries and daily essentials.
Tucked into the compact kitchen is a small fridge, a well-worn relic from his college days.
And that’s not all he’s equipped with a microwave, an Instant Pot, an air fryer, and even a convection oven. Quite the culinary arsenal for life on the road, wouldn’t you say?

Clever compostion
You’ll spot thoughtful touches like Mason jar storage lining the walls, a keyboard tucked neatly in the corner, and a generously sized closet that defies the compact layout.
Toward the rear of the Roamer bus, a television mounted on a swivel-arm awaits perfectly positioned to offer relaxed viewing from nearly any angle.
He’s also crafted a custom-built sofa that effortlessly transforms into a bed perfect for accommodating an overnight guest without sacrificing style or function.
Caleb’s plush queen-sized bed features a distinctive checkered headboard, which cleverly disguises compact cabinetry ideal for sneaking in yet more storage.
Nestled beneath that inviting sleep space lies a concealed 50-gallon freshwater tank, seamlessly integrated into the design.
He’s thought of everything.

Tucked discreetly beside the bed is a compact door that opens into his bathroom seamless and cleverly concealed within the layout.
Caleb’s vision was nothing short of remarkable, and in just a matter of months, he brought his dream dwelling to life with precision and flair.
And he stayed within budget.
What’s impressive is how this project doubled as a showcase for his creative prowess placing his name firmly on the radar as a promising architect on the rise.
