Beat the Heat Try This Easy DIY Cooling Hack Everyones Talking About
Summer has arrived in full swing, bringing along blazing afternoons and golden rays. While the sunshine is perfect for outdoor escapades, it often turns home life into a sweltering struggle. Staying cool indoors becomes a daily battle especially when air conditioning remains a pricey indulgence out of reach for many.
Luckily, there’s a clever, cost-effective solution that offers relief without draining your wallet. With just a 5-gallon bucket and a few household items, you can build a DIY air cooler no compressor required that keeps your space refreshingly cool for up to six hours. Here’s what you’ll need to get started.
Materials:
- 1 pc. 5 gallon bucket
- 1 Foam 5 gallon bucket liner
- 1 5V USB powered fan
- 1 pc. 2 in. PVC pipe, cut 2.5” long
- 25 pcs large plastic Popsicle sleeves
- 1 gallon jug
You will also need the following tools:
- 1 cordless drill
- 1 knife
- 1 hacksaw/PVC cutters
- 1 s 3/8” hole saw

Start by carefully drilling evenly spaced holes into the side of the bucket. Make sure each hole is positioned no less than two inches above the bucket’s base to maintain structural integrity and prevent leakage.
Next, slide the foam liner snugly into the 5-gallon bucket, aligning it with the pre-drilled openings. Carefully puncture the liner to match each existing hole. Then, insert a PVC pipe into every opening, ensuring a secure and airtight fit.

Based on the fan’s shape and construction, position it squarely atop the lid of the 5-gallon bucket and the liner’s cover. Once aligned, fasten the fan firmly in place to ensure stability during operation.

Ready the popsicle sleeves and carefully arrange them inside the bucket’s interior. Once everything is set, power up the fan and bask in the refreshing breeze it delivers.
Voila! It’s time to bask in the glory of your creation.
