How to Grow Napa Cabbage All Season Long Even in Small Spaces
His pure delight in gardening is as magnetic as the mastery behind his every move. Every moment was a joy to witness.
For countless people, the idea of growing food and nourishing their own family feels like a distant fantasy beautiful, but unreachable.
Life takes over. Work demands, daily obligations, and endless distractions often leave no room to nurture a thriving vegetable patch.
Thankfully, there are other ways.
For others, the challenge isn’t time it’s space.
City life, high-rise living, tiny balconies. No soil-rich backyard or sun-drenched plot to sow a single seed.
But here’s the silver lining: growing your own food is still within reach, even in tight quarters and tighter schedules.
On a YouTube channel called Teo Garden, one innovative gardener unveils how to cultivate lush vegetables right inside your home no yard, no sprawling hours required.
Low maintenance gardening
In this particular video, the focus is on cultivating Napa cabbage a leafy gem that’s both flavorful and packed with nutrients.
Getting started is surprisingly simple: just grab a bit of soil and a modest seed tray.
And no, there’s no need to splurge on some high-end gardening gear. A humble tray will do just fine.
Old egg cartons work just fine!
Fill your tray (or egg carton) with enough soil to cover all of the holes.
Next, pick up a small packet of cabbage seeds.
They’re easy on the wallet and found at nearly any neighborhood garden shop.
Tear open the pouch and gently pinch a few seeds between your fingers.
Press a slight hollow into the soil, let the seeds fall into their new home, then softly sweep soil back over the top once every section of the tray has been seeded.
Then give them some water.

Within just a few days, tiny cabbage sprouts will begin to peek through the surface of your tray delicate, green signs of life.
When it’s time to give them more room to flourish, you’ll find no shortage of options for transplanting into larger containers.
A perfect time to recycle used jugs

But once again, you don’t need to spend a fortune here on fancy pots.
They grow in used 5-gallon jugs.
Slice it cleanly down the center, then bore a handful of drainage holes into the base and along the lower sides.
Once done, pack it with rich soil almost to the brim and just like that, your planting vessel is ready.

Don’t forget to thin them out.
Choose the hardiest, most vibrant sprouts to transfer into the jug.
They might look almost laughably tiny nestled in such a large container but give it time. They’ll soon stretch out and claim every inch of that space.

Be sure to water regularly.
In the span of just a couple of months, your cabbage will have grown to a size that is ready to be enjoyed.

Simply trim away the outer leaves encircling the cabbage yes, they’re edible and full of flavor then take a sharp knife and slice the cabbage head cleanly from its root base.
It’s that simple.

Now your cabbage is ready to eat!
